What is the Hokema B11 Kalimba Melody?
The Hokema B11 Kalimba Melody is a meticulously crafted thumb piano known as a kalimba or mbira. It is handcrafted with precision and care by skilled artisans, resulting in an instrument of exceptional quality and musicality. What I Love about the Hokema B11 Kalimba Melody
You may or may not be aware, but i have quite the collection of Hokema Kalimbas, call it an obsession if you will. Of all of my collection of 6, I think this is the go-to instrument for a few reasons.
The Scale is versatile, providing lots to explore. The B5 and B7, although superb introductory models, can be outgrown relatively quickly, whereas, for a beginner, the B11 provides a veritable Amazon to explore with your own creativity whilst remaining small enough to learn on.
I liken this one very much to the Hokema B9 Electro in the brightness of the scale, although this is a G-Major against the B9’s A-Minor, making it possible to create a more cheerful set of melodies. Though preference is subjective, Minor scales can provide moodier, darker melodies.
The other benefit for me is that it remains an excellent size to fit into any hands and not stretch those thumbs too much like the B17 can. Outside of the Sansula Renaissance, this is by far my favourite kalimba from Hokema.
